Rema was born in the city of Benin, Edo state. The young rapper was born into a Christian home, which enabled him to showcase his singing abilities throughout his schooling.

The name Rema was unknown to the general public before 2018. He gained notoriety after uploading a freestyle video to D’Prince’s “Gucci Gang” track.

D’Prince noticed the video and immediately approached Rema about signing him to his record company. Rema got a contract with the Jonzing World record label (established by D’Prince), a subsidiary of Marvin Records, after the release of the video.
