Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf (born May 6, 1985) is one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous rappers and songwriters. He is popularly known by the nickname, CDQ and for singing in his local dialect, Yoruba.
CDQ was born in Orile, Lagos State but hails from Ilorin in Kwara State. He spent his early years in Orile before moving to Ilorin for his high school education. CDQ took up an interest in music while in high school, focusing on rap music.
In 2008, CDQ started making music professionally and he worked as a backup singer to Dagrin for some time before uniting with M.I Abaga. After winning a rap battle in 2012, Popular Nigerian producer, Masterkraft offered him a contract in 2013 which he accepted and that began the success of his career.
The year 2014 was the year CDQ became a household name in the country as he released his breakthrough single titled “Indomie” which featured Olamide.
He recorded another commercial success with the song, Nowo E Soke featuring Wizkid which was the leading single off his debut album, “Quality”. He has won several awards including the Best Street-Hop Artiste at the 2017 Ghana-Naija Showbiz Awards.
After the expiration of his contract with General Records, he launched his own record label, No Struggle No Success (NSNS) on the 11th Of November 2016. His first single under the label is titled, Sai Baba and he has released numerous hit singles such as Werey yo, Gbayi, Shey Normal, and others.
